About Commons

One place to keep up with where you live.

Piasa Commons brings together what's happening across the communities along the Mississippi and throughout the Metro-East, making the useful things close to home easier to find.

Why Commons

Local life doesn't fit into one category.

News matters, but it is only one part of knowing where you live. The useful details that shape where you go, what you do, and how an ordinary day unfolds belong in the picture too.

Most of that information already exists. The problem is that it is scattered across different sites, feeds, calendars, maps, and conversations — each useful on its own, none designed to help you see the area as a whole. Piasa Commons brings those pieces closer together.

Built around the area

Close to home is bigger than one town.

The communities along this part of the Mississippi each have their own identity, but daily life crosses town lines. Piasa Commons is built at that regional scale: close enough to stay local, broad enough to reflect how people actually live here.

What guides it

Useful every day

The standard isn't whether something sounds important. It is whether it helps someone understand, decide, or discover something close to home.

The whole picture

News is part of Commons, not the definition of it. Whatever helps tell the story of the area belongs here, whether or not it looks like news.

Growing with a purpose

Commons is young and incomplete. New pieces earn their place by making the area easier to follow, not by filling out a feature list.

Who's behind it

Built in Alton by Piasa Studios.

Piasa Commons is built and operated by Piasa Studios, an independent software studio that builds applications, platforms, and products of its own. Commons is one of those products: designed here and run here.

That local, independent footing keeps the people building Commons close to the place it serves — and close to the questions, corrections, and ideas that shape what comes next.
