Illinois State Police Investigates Officer Involved Shooting in Granite City

GRANITE CITY – The Granite City Police Department (GCPD) and the Madison County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) requested the Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 6 to investigate an officer involved shooting in Granite City.

On August 24, 2026, at approximately 10:19 a.m., GCPD and MCSO officers responded to the 2000 block of Edison Avenue in Granite City for the report of an armed suspect. Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect armed with multiple weapons. The suspect did not comply with officers’ commands to drop the weapons. Both a GCPD and MCSO officer discharged firearms striking the suspect. The suspect was transported to an area hospital in critical but stable condition. No officers were injured.

This investigation is open and ongoing. Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be submitted for review to the Madison County State’s Attorney's Office. No additional information is available at this time.
